The latest update on the David Sullivan West Ham role has provided a clear message over who is now responsible for running the club.
Sullivan stepped down as joint-chairman and director in June, ending his 16-year spell on the West Ham board. He remains the club’s largest individual shareholder, but insists he has no involvement in its daily operations.
Asked about the current situation at West Ham, Sullivan directed questions towards Daniel Křetínský and Vanessa Gold.
“I’m not involved so I do not know,” Sullivan told Hammers News.
“Call them up and ask them.”
David Sullivan West Ham role is now clear
Sullivan still holds a 38.8 per cent stake, giving him a major financial interest in West Ham. However, his latest statement separates that shareholding from responsibility for football and operational decisions.
Křetínský and Gold must now provide the direction as the club attempts to recover from relegation. Recruitment, finances and West Ham’s promotion strategy will fall under the current leadership group rather than Sullivan.
That responsibility has become increasingly important during a difficult summer. ReadWestHam recently explained why the West Ham owners must act after the Rangers draw exposed four squad weaknesses.
Sullivan’s future as a shareholder remains a separate question. He could eventually sell his stake, but there is no suggestion that an immediate departure has been agreed.
His latest comments provide little room for uncertainty over the present situation. By his own account, Sullivan remains an owner but is no longer a West Ham decision-maker.
