West Ham want to sign Leicester City defender Harry Souttar on an initial loan deal.
The transfer could depend on Leicester relaxing their £10million valuation after that price discouraged several other interested clubs.
West Ham Zone reports that Alan Nixon has confirmed the Hammers’ interest in the Australia international.
Nuno Espírito Santo wants to strengthen his defence before West Ham begin their Championship campaign. However, the club favour a loan agreement rather than immediately meeting Leicester’s permanent asking price.
Sheffield United and Stoke City have also considered Souttar. Leicester’s demands have reportedly discouraged both clubs, potentially leaving West Ham in a stronger position.
Harry Souttar to West Ham transfer could suit Nuno
Souttar returned to Leicester following Australia’s World Cup campaign and featured as a substitute during Saturday’s 3-3 friendly draw with Malaga.
The 27-year-old stands at 6ft 6in and would provide the physical presence required during a demanding Championship season. He is strong in the air and already understands the demands of English football.
ReadWestHam previously reported that West Ham had joined a four-club race for Souttar. Nuno’s side may now be the most realistic destination if they can agree a suitable loan structure.
Leicester are preparing for League One after suffering a second consecutive relegation. Souttar remains under contract until 2028, so the Foxes can demand either a significant fee or favourable loan terms.
The Harry Souttar to West Ham transfer is not yet advanced. However, the Hammers’ preference for an initial loan could eventually provide a compromise if Leicester struggle to find a club willing to pay £10million outright.
