West Ham United are reportedly tracking Norway midfielder Patrick Berg as Nuno Espirito Santo looks at possible additions in the middle of the pitch.
TEAMtalk reports the Hammers are among several English clubs exploring a move for the 28-year-old, who plays for Bodo/Glimt.
Coventry City are also credited with interest, while the report says a number of other sides are monitoring Berg after his performances for club and country.
Berg has raised his profile during Norway’s World Cup run and has also played a key role in Bodo/Glimt’s recent Champions League campaign.
ReadWestHam recently looked at Nils Koppen’s role in West Ham’s recruitment chain, and Berg would fit the kind of experienced, value-led target the club have been assessing.
Berg Would Add Control To West Ham Midfield
West Ham’s midfield still needs careful work this summer.
Nuno has options, but the squad lacks enough reliable control and passing range in deeper areas. Berg offers both, along with international experience and leadership.
FIFA’s profile of Berg described him as one of Norway’s senior figures, and he even captained the side during their group-stage defeat to France.
The Premier League would still be a step up. Berg’s brief spell at Lens did not work out, and any English move would require adaptation to a faster, more physical league.
West Ham should still be interested at the right price.
Berg is not a flashy name, but he reads the game well and moves the ball quickly. For a midfield that needs structure, he looks like a sensible player to keep on the list.
