  • West Ham need to raise £150 million this summer
  • It has not stopped them making Keiber Lamadrid’s loan spell permanent
  • The 22-year-old made one appearance for the Hammers last season

West Ham United are preparing for life in the Championship and have made their first signing of the summer after Premier League relegation.

According to The Athletic, the Hammers have activated the buy option in Keiber Lamadrid’s loan deal. The winger has not joined West Ham permanently for a fee said to be around £1 million.

The 22-year-old spent much of last season with the under-21’s, but did make a handful of appearances on the bench. Lamadrid’s sole appearance for the Hammers came in the FA Cup tie with Burton Albion, where Venezuelan played 72 minutes.

West Ham had always seen the young winger as one for the future but were not expected to activate their buy clause considering the financial situation at the club.

The Irons have to raise around £150 million this summer and are expected to do so by selling a number of first-team stars. Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville will leave, with the Hammers hoping they can raise a significant number from the two players.

The club were not expected to make any signings until sales were made, making Lamadrid’s permanent signing somewhat of a surprise.
