Serie A side mull over move for West Ham striker
  • West Ham need to raise £150m this summer
  • Player sales are expected to be the way the Hammers get there
  • Valentin Castellanos is one of the players in the shop window

West Ham United will play their football in the Championship next season. After back-to-back poor seasons, the Hammers finally fell through the trap door and will now have to deal with more obstacles off the pitch than on it, to get back to the Premier League.

Whilst the club have convinced Nuno Espirito Santo to stay at West Ham, they still need to raise £150 million this summer. The easiest and most likely way to get there will be through player sales, with Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville likely to be the first two names out of the door.

Nuno’s challenge will be to convince some stars to stay, whilst using others to balance the books. One that could stick around may now have his head turned, with an almost dream move lurking.

Atalanta could target West Ham’s Valentin Castellanos

Atalanta are expected to be in the market for a striker this summer. The Serie A outfit look as though they are selling former West Ham forward Gianluca Scamacca to AS Roma and could look back to East London for his replacement.

According to Italian daily Corriere della Sera, Atalanta is mulling over a move for the Hammers striker, Valentin Castellanos.

The 27-year-old only left Serie A in January, joining the Irons from Lazio, but the forward is said to be open to a return to Italy, almost calling it a dream move.

The Argentinian has been solid since arriving at the London Stadium and it appears unlikely that he will play in the Championship next season, leaving the door open to a sale.

Castellanos did like West Ham’s post about Nuno staying, but given the clubs financial position, the striker and the teams hands may be tied when deciding his next move.
