West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen has been named in Denmark’s squad for the forthcoming June international friendlies, continuing his ascent on the international stage.

Under Nuno Espírito Santo, the 25-year-old has re-established himself as West Ham’s number one and received recognition from the Danish national team. His recent performances for club and country have only added to his burgeoning reputation heading into the summer.

Though the Hammers are on the verge of relegation, Hermansen’s form in the early spring has extended their fate until the league’s final day.

Announced on the nation’s official website, Hermansen’s inclusion comes after he handed his senior Denmark debut by Brian Riemer during the March international break, keeping a clean sheet in a 4-0 win over North Macedonia in a World Cup qualifying play-off.

Denmark lost out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a penalty shootout defeat to Tomáš Souček’s Czechia, with the West Ham goalie once again involved. Despite the loss, Hermansen returned from the break with high acclaim for his performances between the posts.

Hermansen had previously been a fixture in Denmark’s youth teams, but he had to wait until earlier this year for his senior debut. Celtic’s Kasper Schmeichel had withdrawn from the March internationals with a season-ending injury, and the 39-year-old former Leicester City league winner is likely to call time on his career.

For West Ham, the recent call-up is yet another encouraging indication of Hermansen’s sustained form after winning the club’s Save of the Season on Friday.

Denmark’s friendlies – against Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s DR Congo and Ukraine – will present Hermansen with another opportunity to bolster his case for a long-term spot as his country’s first-choice keeper for the next international cycle. Meanwhile, West Ham fans will be hoping that their No.1, regardless of Sunday’s outcome, can serve as a commendable figure going forward.
