West Ham United play Leeds United on Sunday for one final shot at staying in the Premier League. The Hammers have to win, whilst they also need Tottenham Hotspur to lose across London, against Everton.

The Hammers have a lot to think about on the final day of the season, but stalwart West Ham man, Tomas Soucek has told the club’s official website that the team’s mind needs to solely be on one thing.

“Obviously it’s not in our hands, so it will be difficult for our fans to watch it and to concentrate on our result and on other results as well, but as players we have to be professional and concentrate only on our performance and win the game, get our job done and then hope that obviously other results will help us and save us in the league,” he said.

“This can be even like one of the best days for recent years. If we do it, if we make it, I would compare it to the same mood as in Prague.

“We have to think only about winning because, whatever happens, we want to finish with the win in our last game of the season at home and give the fans the best performance we can do. We also hope that it can save us in the league, but the first thing is we need to do our job.”

Tomas Soucek feels the West Ham fans frustrations

By now, Soucek is one of us, and he knows how this feels. So much so, the Czechia midfielder says the feeling of keeping the Hammers up would be as good as winning the European trophy.

“I totally understand the fans that they are frustrated,” said Souček. “I am also frustrated because I don’t want to be in this position and they want the best of us.

“If they didn’t care it would be bad because we want them to be passionate, so that’s a good thing in this kind of game.

“We all know we need them on our side because we know how important they are and hopefully London Stadium can be as loud as it was against Sevilla.

“I compare this game a lot to the Prague game, that a miracle can happen, so we just need to be all together and get the three points.”

West Ham need some help from former Irons boss David Moyes on the day as well. Soucek is confident his old boss will do the job.

“Everyone knows how good a relationship I have with him and they know that we need them!” he smiled.

“The connection between us is unbelievable but, as I said, we have to concentrate on our result, on our three points and I hope that I will message them after the game to say ‘thank you’!

“For now, I just want to concentrate on the training and preparation and be ready for our game.”
