- Pablo Felipe was unable to claim the Premier League’s Creative Moment of the Month award
- West Ham United enter the weekend in the league’s relegation zone
- Jarrod Bowen, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Nuno Espírito Santo also missed out on Premier League accolades.
West Ham’s difficult run in the past week has shown little sign of easing, and Pablo Felipe became the latest Hammer to miss out on Premier League recognition.
The 22-year-old attacker was nominated for the league’s Creative Moment of the Month award at the start of the month, delivering a beautiful flicked assist that set up Taty Castellanos in a 4-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers. It was a rare moment of quality in an otherwise difficult start to life in east London for the January signing.
The Hammers have been in a relegation fight for much of the season, currently sitting 18th in the table; Brazilian Pablo was brought in from Portuguese side Gil Vicente to ignite a spark into the Hammers’ survival bid, but has only contributed that sole moment against Wolves.
West Ham’s quadruple award snub highlights current misfortunes
Pablo joined Jarrod Bowen, Konstantinos Mavropanos, and Nuno Espírito Santo in missing out on Premier League accolades.
Instead, the honour went to Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo, whose brilliant dribble against Brentford drew significant plaudits even though he failed to score.
Pablo’s nomination was at least a reminder of his potential, but it did little to alleviate rising worries about his performances. The Brazilian is still seeking his first goal for the club, and his performance in the recent defeat to Brentford garnered criticism from some West Ham fans.
West Ham are one of the division’s least productive scoring sides – scoring just 42 goals in 35 games, despite boasting the third top assister in Bowen (10). Nuno’s counter-attacking football has shown signs of yielding better results, but with limited creative options outside of Bowen and El Hadji Malick Diouf, most of the Hammers’ attacks tend to wilt for lack of threat.
Like Bowen, Mavropanos and Nuno, Pablo’s contributions to this campaign will likely be remembered for what he can produce in the final run-in. With a pivotal match against Arsenal approaching, the focus will now shift to whether Nuno keeps the youthful attacker or opts for experience, with Callum Wilson and other options waiting in the wings.
