  • West Ham sit one point from safety in the Premier League
  • The Hammers lost 3-0 to Brentford
  • The club are targeting a return for Slaven Bilic if they are relegated

West Ham United’s Premier League survival fight took a blow on Saturday, as they lost 3-0 to Brentford. The loss sees the Hammers drop back into the bottom three, sitting one point below Tottenham Hotspur, who beat Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Irons went unbeaten in the month of April, but are now staring relegation in the face once more. With three games remaining in the season, West Ham will play Arsenal, Newcastle United and Leeds United, and whilst they have two home games, the Hammers are not in full control of their destiny anymore.

Nuno Espirito Santo remains in charge of the team and has overseen a significant turnaround in 2026. Unfortunately, it may not be enough to keep the team in the Premier League and with the club in an uncertain period, their could be scope for a full reset in the result of relegation.

West Ham target Slaven Bilic return if relegated

According to Football Insider, West Ham are targeting a return for Slaven Bilic, should the team fall into the Championship.

57-year-old Bilic played for the Hammers in the 90s and returned to manage the club in 2015, lasting two years in the job at Upton Park. Currently out of work, the former Croatia international last managed in England with Watford in 2022, before being sacked less than a year later by the ever-pedantic Hornets hierarchy.

A return for Bilic would not guarantee any success but could be more of an attempt to recover fan faith in the board an the team.

Nuno recently declared his interest to stay at West Ham, even if the club are relegated. Despite this, the club are attempting to think forward, with the worst possible outcome of this season very much at the forefront of their mind.

There will be a lot of change at the club this summer regardless of the division they end up in, but the Hammers have three games to make it less change than it needs to be.

matchday.
