- West Ham are still monitoring Armando Gonzalez
- A number of team’s around Europe are interested including Barcelona
- The Hammers target is cautious about his next move
Sought-after West Ham transfer target, Armando Gonzalez, has been advised to act with care while making his next move, despite an alluring number of possible suitors for the Mexican striker.
The 23-year-old is having a career-best season with Chivas de Guadalajara in Liga MX, with 26 goals and two assists in 39 games.
His prolific record has piqued the interest of teams across Europe, including the Hammers, Celtic, Barcelona, and Borussia Dortmund. Gonzalez has also made six appearances for the Mexico international team, alongside West Ham midfielder Edson Álvarez, who is on loan at Fenerbahçe.
Gonzalez is now aiming for a World Cup spot in front of his home audience this summer.
Armando Gonzalez and agents ‘very cautious’ over transfer chatter
Gonzalez has stated that he is open to a move in the summer and wants to play at the top level. Given the interest, any reported deal is expected to cost upwards of eight figures. With his contract with Chivas not expiring until 2029, it is up to West Ham, Celtic, and other possible suitors to take the initiative and compete for his services. However, the Mexican marksman isn’t thinking too far forward just yet.
Gonzalez reacted to a question regarding his views on European interest via Sports Witness: “No, I try to focus on my day-to-day life. If it happens, I’d be very grateful; if not, I’ll work to make it happen. My father and my agents are very cautious about that and prefer not to fill my head with things, so I don’t get distracted.
“I’m very grateful for that. Yes, I would try [to move to Europe] because it’s a dream I have. But if it doesn’t happen, it’s no big deal; I’ll keep working. And if it does happen, I’ll be very grateful. It all depends on staying focused on the day-to-day.”

How much is Armando Gonzalez valued at?
As mentioned, given his contract and age, Gonzalez may not be a cheap option, especially if West Ham are relegated from the Premier League this season. The Mexican club are in no hurry to lose such a talented goalscorer like the 23-year-old.
According to Transfermarkt, Gonzalez is presently worth roughly £15 million, but with so much interest and his recent interview, Chivas will find it difficult to persuade him at that price.
The Hammers may have to wait to find out their Premier League status before making a move. Celtic and clubs abroad would be able to provide Gonzalez with top-tier football even if they can’t cough up the financial demands.
