- West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville still has dreams of making the Netherlands World Cup squad
- An injury to Xavi Simons could open the door
- The pair play similar positions
West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville could have a chance to make it on the international stage after all. The Hammers winger has been superb for the Hammers all season and is hoping to finally make his Netherlands debut soon.
Dutch national team boss, Ronald Koeman, has stated he has his eye on the 24-year-old and looked to call Summerville up in the last international window. Unfortunately for the player, he picked up an injury that saw him miss out on the camp, and several weeks for West Ham.
Now, Summerville could be handed another chance to make the Netherlands squad for the World Cup this summer. Tottenham Hotspur‘s Xavi Simons, who has been an integral part of Koeman’s team, suffered a torn ACL in Spur’s 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers and will now miss the tournament.

With Simons out, Koeman is on the look out for a new playmaker, and Summerville could be the chosen one.

| Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 30 | 7 | 2 |
This season, the 24-year-od has been one of West Ham‘s standout performers, and in the team’s last two games has begun to look back to his best after injury. The winger has been deployed in his natural position out wide, but has begun to use his dribbling skills when drifting inside more often, something that could play into his hands on the international stage.
For the Netherlands, Simons has often played either out wide or behind the striker or out wide. Wherever he was deployed, he was always instructed to drift inside and help central players and attack from within. With Summerville beginning to do the same for West Ham, it will only aid his case to be Simons replacement.
There is still a lot of football to be played before the World Cup this summer, but Summerville now has another incentive to show his best for the Hammers in the final four games of the season.
