- West Ham beat Everton 2-1 at the London Stadium
- Tottenham Hotspur beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 on the same day
- Spurs remain two points below the Hammers
West Ham United beat Everton 2-1 on Saturday at the London Stadium to secure a huge three points. Tomas Soucek opened the scoring before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall got one back for the Toffees. The Hammers would pull of the late show, with Callum Wilson finding the net in the dying moments to give West Ham the win.
The three points keeps Nuno Espirito Santo’s team out of the bottom three, but it was not all good news for the Irons, as Tottenham Hotspur secured their first Premier League win of 2026. Joao Palhinha’s second-half goal was enough to guide Spurs to a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The results mean that nothing changes at the bottom at the survival fight carries on. West Ham remain two points above Spurs, the Hammers in control of their destiny, with four games of the season left to go.
Alan Shearer delivers new relegation verdict after wins for West Ham and Spurs
Prior to the weekend, former England and Newcastle United striker, labelled Spurs game as must win but thought that West Ham would not beat Everton, instead opting for a draw.
Now, speaking on his podcast with Gary Lineker and Micah Richard, The Rest is Football, Shearer believes the ball is in the Hammers court to stay up.
“I kept looking at my phone because West Ham score, Everton equalise, Spurs score and then Callum Wilson scores for West Ham in the last minute and I think, ‘Oh my god’.
“We talk about pressure at the top, but there’s certainly more pressure at the bottom because you know if you’re going to be relegated, and it looks like the Hammers or Tottenham, then without doubt people will lose their jobs in the football club.
“It’s a horrible situation but one of them is going to go. For all of them to have a bit of form at this time of the season is incredible. Tottenham’s first win, the Irons have responded well in the last couple of months, Forest are flying as well… it’s going to be tough.”
Shearer also added that Spurs picked up two more injuries on Saturday, something that could aid the Irons bid to stay in the top flight.
“I think West Ham might stay up. Tottenham had a couple of injuries yesterday, [Dominic] Solanke and [Xavi] Simons went off injured.”
