- West Ham beat Everton 2-1 on Saturday
- The victory keeps the Hammers outside of the bottom three
- Tomas Soucek and Callum Wilson scored for the Irons
West Ham United secured a huge three points as they defeated Everton 2-1 in dramatic fashion. The Hammers scored a late winner through Callum Wilson as they stay two points above the bottom three in the Premier League.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men remain in control of their top flight destiny with the win, despite Tottenham Hotspur‘s victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
One of West Ham‘s goal scorer’s on Saturday, Tomas Soucek, has told the club’s official website that it is always great to score whilst emphasising how important the win is.
“It’s a great feeling, because we knew how important this game was, and we all went into it together, including the fans.
“Of course we were so happy we scored first, and it was a nice feeling for me, but we knew there was still about 40 minutes to go. It was a bit tough when it went back to 1-1, but we kept fighting and the fans kept supporting us, and that’s why when we scored the second the stadium exploded.
“The noise, the atmosphere and the emotion was very high. I’m so happy for Callum, and I’m so happy for the whole team and for the fans. We have momentum now, and we have to keep that going.”
West Ham taking each game as it comes
Whilst Soucek was happy to find the net himself, the midfielder was also pleased for Wilson, who show’s his finishing ability regularly in training.
“I have to give him big respect because it’s not always been so easy for him here. But, he’s such an important player for us.
“He shows it in the training sessions, and in games. We know he can score so many goals, and today he saved us, like he did away at Tottenham Hotspur in January. I have to give him big respect for what he’s done for this Club.”
Soucek knows how important the three points are for West Ham but say’s the team are taking it one game at at time and just focusing on themselves.
“It’s been a lot better. Obviously we’ve been a bit disappointed with a few games, but we’re in a better place now and we have to keep it going and manage it. We just need to keep enjoying our football, getting results, and we know that as it stands things are in our hands.
“We have four games left, and as everyone says it’s four finals. But, we just have to take each one as it comes. Today we can enjoy the win, but then from tomorrow all eyes will be on getting ready for Brentford.”
