- The West Ham captain appeared for England against Uruguay last night
- Jarrod Bowen came on for Noni Madueke in the 38th minute
- It was 20th appearance for England
This international break there are a number of West Ham United player out with their nations this window. One quite close to home is club captain Jarrod Bowen, who made another England camp in the hope of booking his place to this summer’s World Cup.
With a number of players joining the Three Lions later in the window, Bowen was one of the more notably named tipped to play against Uruguay last night. The 29-year-old’s number was up quickly, as he came on to replace Noni Madueke on the 38th minute, with the Arsenal winger suffering an injury.
The West Ham star would go on to play the rest of the game in what was a disjointed performance from England with many changes to the team.
Thomas Tuchel’s team ended up drawing the match after Ben White gave them the lead. Federico Valverde would score a late penalty, their only shot on target, to see it finish 1-1.
Jarrod Bowen’s World Cup shot
The West Ham captain has been a mainstay in the England squad since Tuchel took charge but has yet to cement his place in the team going forward. With a number of players in his position playing well, Bowen know he has to take his chances.
Bukayo Saka is the natural starter in his wide position on the right with Bowen having been the back-up for the best part of the last three years. Despite this the likes of Phil Foden, Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes have all been performing well and can play in that position.
The 29-year-old has been one of West Ham’s best players this season, having the most goal involvements of any English player in the Premier League. Whilst for club Bowen has been displaying his form, he knows he needs to show it on the international stage.
Despite a number of players being missing from the England squad, Bowen was Tuchel’s first choice from the bench and the West Ham captain will want it to stay that way.
