West Ham vs Manchester City – Everything Nuno said pre-match

West Ham United return to Premier League action as they host Manchester City at the London Stadium. The Hammers know that three points could take them out of the bottom three but face a huge test, with City chasing league leaders, Arsenal.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team kept the momentum going, beating Brentford on penalties on Monday night. The larger problem being is that star winger, Crysencio Summerville, is now set to miss some time with a calf injury.

Pep Guardiola’s team aren’t on the best stretch at the minute. Manchester City failed to beat Nottingham Forest in their last Premier League game but bounced back with an FA Cup win over Newcastle United. Unfortunately, the Cityzens fell to Real Madrid in the Bernabeu and West Ham will be hoping that loss has left a hangover on the City squad.

Nuno’s thoughts

On Summerville’s injury: “It can happen at any moment. He was a big help to the team.”

On the positive atmosphere at West Ham, despite their league position: “The togetherness, the unity has been amazing, realising that everyone is needed and must give their best.”

On watching the team’s around the Hammers in the Premier League: “I’m going to watch all of the games – some of them live, some of them afterwards. I watch all the games – not only the opponents that we have – from the perspective of work. Seeing what can I take – sometimes ideas, I try to steal them, try to apply them to our team. It’s always nice, it’s always helpful.”

On Mateus Fernandes: “He’s a young player who still has a lot to develop. He’s shown a lot of character and he always gives it his all.”

On Axel Disasi and his impact: “He’s integrated himself really well in the squad. He’s doing really well. Credit to him.”

On if Erling Haaland changes the game plan against Manchester City: “They have an identity so that any player that you put in immediately clicks. So many options, so many talented players.”
