West Ham United have an “interest” in signing Villarreal star Boulaye Dia amidst speculation over his future in Spain.

That is according to transfer insider Dean Jones who has disclosed that a move for the 25-year-old “wouldn’t totally surprise” him, with the star believed to be on the radar of several clubs after some impressive form out on loan at Serie A side Salernitana.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on the matter, Jones said: “West Ham have already got an interest in him. That wouldn’t totally surprise me if they were to become involved for him.”

Another Antonio rival

Having been the only outright striking option at the club over the last few seasons, Antonio now finds himself in the midst of competition from Gianluca Scamacca, who has managed to limit the 32-year-old to just six starts in the league.

Whilst Scamacca has started nine, the pair are locked with Jarrod Bowen as the joint-highest goal-scorers for the Hammers in the Premier League with just two goals apiece, with the shared role up top clearly not working so far.

Another element of striking competition could well render Antonio as a bit-part player in what would be a big turnaround from a player who scored ten Premier League goals for three consecutive seasons at the London Stadium.

With six goals and two assists in 14 Serie A games, there is no doubting the £10million striker’s ability up-top.

The 25-year-old has shown his guile in La Liga with parent club Villarreal, but demonstrated this on a greater level just one season prior in Ligue 1, scoring 14 goals for Reims.

As a Champions League goalscorer, he could well be the final piece in the West Ham puzzle and the club should certainly monitor him throughout his World Cup bid with Senegal.

David Moyes desperately needs to fix the Iron’s goalscoring issue, with the side ranked as the third-lowest scorers in the Premier League as we head into the international break.

Dia could well be the answer.
