Virals: West Ham ‘in talks’ to sign Stade Reims striker Hugo Ekitike

West Ham have reportedly begun ‘talks’ to sign Stade Reims striker Hugo Ekitike during this January transfer window.

The Hammers had been widely expected to make a move for a frontman this month and it looks as though the 19-year-old could be the chosen target.

Still pushing for a place in the Premier League top four, David Moyes will be hoping to find support for Michail Antonio in the final days before the deadline.

According to Sky Sports, as cited by West Ham News & Views on Twitter, a late move for Ekitike is on the cards.

The report claims that the Ligue 1 club will demand ‘in excess of €30million (£25million)’ for the twice-capped France Under 20 starlet.

This season Ekitike – who has been linked to Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain – has scored eight times and provided four assists in 20 appearances across all competitions.

Holding a market value of £5.4million and under contract until 2024 (Transfermarkt), signing the French youngster for the mooted asking price would be considered slightly over the odds.

Despite making an impressive start to life in the top-flight, this is the forward’s first taste of elite action.

Whilst the Hammers are nearing the desperate need for a frontman and Ekitike may well have a sky-high future in the game, there is perhaps better value for money to be had elsewhere.
