Virals: West Ham tipped to ‘enquire’ over EPL defensive duo

West Ham could be about to ‘enquire’ with two Premier League rivals about the availability of their central defenders.

The Hammers are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements during the January transfer window following long-term injures suffered by Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna.

According to reliable club insider ExWHUemployee on The West Ham Way podcast, Chelsea ace Malang Sarr and previously linked Tottenham man Joe Rodon could be on the shortlist.

There is a chance that we will enquire about the availability of Malang Saar of Chelsea who is a left-sided centre and Joe Rodon the welsh international centre back at Spurs. Although once more it is unlikely that Spurs will deal with us. Both players have been linked before.

Signed from Swansea in 2020, the 24-year-old Wales international has made just six appearances across all competitions this season.

Meanwhile, Sarr, a 22-year-old Frenchman, has also made six fleeting outings for Chelsea.

Whilst there would appear to be little likelihood of Tottenham directly aiding the Hammers, especially with both clubs challenging for the top four, Rodon would represent a smart move.

Capped 22 times by Wales at the senior level, the Swansea-born ace possesses impressive defensive abilities as well as additional top-level experience.

Sarr on the other hand remains relatively untested at the elite level with just one full campaign in Ligue 1 to call upon as experience.

Ultimately the Hammers will hope it doesn’t come to having to loan players from rivals and instead the club can source attainable targets elsewhere.

matchday.
