Former West Ham midfielder Trevor Sinclair has urged the club to enter the transfer market in the wake of recent injury woes.
The Hammers have lost Angelo Ogbonna for the entire season and Kurt Zouma is expected to miss around 12 weeks due to a hamstring injury.
David Moyes’ side have been exceeding expectations once again this season and are currently sitting in the Premier League top four.
However, speaking on talkSPORT (Wednesday, December 8 11:45am), Sinclair suggested that the Irons may have to enter the market in order to continue on an upwards trajectory.
I think it would be a real shame if they (owners) kept the purse strings tight at this moment and then ended up falling out of those positions because of it. You have to think about [Angelo] Ogbonna. His age, the seriousness of his injury. [Craig] Dawson’s age – why not do it now (replace). Look at the teams they beat in different competitions, why would they not go for it this season? I urge them to go for it.
Show co-host Simon Jordan believed that the board could be more ‘inclined to enter the loan market’ due to the recent expenditure on Zouma and the Frenchman’s likely return this season.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Signing a centre-back next month is a no-brainer for the Hammers.
Moyes is already down the bare bones in the shape of Craig Dawson and Issa Diop, with only the possibility of moving Declan Rice backwards as an alternative.
Already linked with the likes of James Tarkowski, Nat Phillips and Duje Caleta-Car, at least one arrival is imperative to lighten the load and allow West Ham to maintain a top-four push.
