Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell believes West Ham star Declan Rice is the best in his position at present.
The 22-year-old central midfielder has made a blistering start to the new season and looks to be adding new dimensions to his game all the while.
Rice has developed into a more complete player already this term, adding goals and assists to a well-oiled all-around game.
Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell was full of praise for the Englishman.
Rice is the best midfielder in the Premier League right now, he is. I watched him live and direct, very closely at the Everton game. He was miles ahead of everyone else on the pitch. United seriously missed a trick last summer. They should have been all over him. His performances are only putting the price up though. In the long run, I don’t think West Ham can afford him. He has to go to one of the big boys. He is that good. This boy has a huge future ahead of him. Fair play to him because he is improving at a rapid rate. He was good last season but he has been phenomenal this season.
So far this season Rice has scored three times and provided three assists in 14 appearances – more direct goal contributions than the entire 2020/21 campaign.

This billing is about to face its sternest test to date in the shape of Liverpool.
Albeit Rice has shone in Europe and domestically against all-comers this term, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago could provide a whole new dilemma for the 27-cap star.
Should the London-born ace get to grips with his opposing numbers on Sunday then the Hammers will have gone a long way to securing a positive result.
