Ally McCoist claims West Ham could qualify for UCL this season

Scotland legend Ally McCoist has claimed West Ham can qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season.

The Hammers consolidated their spot inside the Premier League top four on Sunday with a resounding 4-1 victory against Aston Villa.

That win moved the Irons three points clear of Manchester United in the race for the top four and David Moyes’ are also well on course to qualify from their Europa League group.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast (November 1), McCoist claimed that there is very little stopping West Ham join the European elite.

Why not? Honest to god. They look to me, they are clearly the second-best team in London.

Both former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara and ex-Iron Trevor Sinclair backed up the Scotsman.

These are the halcyon days that the Hammers faithful could perhaps only have dreamt of a little over 18 months ago.

With Moyes rightfully back in situ at the London Stadium, this current crop certainly appears to be on the verge of something spectacular.

There is no doubt that the fourth place in the Premier League at least is up for grabs at present and there is no reason why West Ham can’t be the team to take it.

Whether it be via domestic means or Europa League glory, Moyes taking the Hammers to the Champions League would be a remarkable feat.
