Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan believes West Ham star Declan Rice has already made peace with a departure from the London Stadium.

Despite much speculation surrounding the 22-year-old midfielder’s future as an Iron, Rice has continued to lead the way in David Moyes’ side.

However, following on from a rejected new deal with the Hammers, reports continue to link the England star away from the club.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan was asked whether Rice had already decided to leave at the end of this season.

Yeah, absolutely. He is a quality player. In my opinion, one of the three best defensive midfield players in the Premier League. I’m talking Kante, Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips. In my opinion, the three best that play in that role. What he is doing now is expanding his game even further. By getting into that final third and coming up with goals as well, he’s adding more to his game. It makes him a more valuable player for West Ham, whatever may come in his future.

This season the 26-cap star has scored twice in two Europa League outings and earned a barnstorming 7.50 average Sofascore rating in the process.

Valued at £63million and under contract until 2024 (Transfermarkt), Rice is at present the most valuable asset at West Ham.

It seems highly unlikely the London-born ace would’ve made a decision over his future already, given the levels of attainment last term and possible achievements on the horizon.

Qualification for Europe once again and perhaps a major honour could see the Hammers keep hold of their prized asset seemingly against all odds.
