Virals: West Ham discover Europa League group stage opposition

West Ham have been drawn alongside Dinamo Zagreb, Genk and Rapid Vienna in Group H of the Europa League for 2021/22.

The Hammers qualified automatically for the group stage of the competition following a sixth-place Premier League finish last season.

This feat has already eclipsed previous jaunts into Europe, including back in 2016/17 when Romanian side Astra Giurgiu got the better of the Irons across two legs at the qualifying stage.

The draw took place in Istanbul the results were confirmed on the UEFA Europa League’s official Twitter account.

David Moyes’ side currently sit top of the Premier League and will be confident of giving a strong account of themselves on the European stage.

Zagreb lifted the Croatian top flight last term whilst Genk sit mid-table in Belgium as things stand.

Surprise participants Vienna lie third in the Austrian Bundesliga, having finished 15 points behind Red Bull Salzburg in 2020/21.

Some exciting trips across the continent await there for the Hammers faithful to enjoy.

Sight-seeing in Croatia, Belgium and Austria aside, West Ham can be confident of their chances of qualifying from Group H.

Perhaps a signing or two before the end of the month and that looming transfer deadline will further enhance the chances and confidence that a run deep into the Europa League is on the cards.
