Quotes from former West Ham man Joe Cole dating back to 2015 have emerged when the now pundit raved about transfer target Adam Armstrong.

The 56-cap ex-England man likened the prolific Blackburn ace, who is reportedly on David Moyes’ radar, to iconic Manchester City frontman Sergio Aguero.

Whilst the pair were plying their trades at Coventry City, where Armstong was on loan from Newcastle United as Cole was coming towards the end of his playing career, the attacking midfielder told the club’s official website of the similarities in playing style.

Armstrong reminds me of [Sergio] Aguero, he’s of the same build and he’s hungry for goals. In a lovely way he’s selfish for goals and has the ingredients to be a top player and go on to score many more goals.

Cole, a Hammer of 180 outings, represented the Sky Blues on 22 occasions.

Meanwhile, Armstrong bagged 20 goals in just 40 appearances for the club – not dissimilar to his 29 goals in 43 outings return this season.

Any comparison with a player at the level of Aguero has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Whilst the parallels are certainly there in terms of playing style and the desire for goals – until this point Armstrong is yet to get off the mark in the Premier League in 15 appearances.

By comparison, Aguero has 182 goals in 274 top-flight displays, a record the current Rovers ace would be over the moon to even come close to emulating.

At just 24 years old, Armstrong certainly has the time and potential to become a top-class centre-forward, something Moyes would no doubt love to coax out next season.
