Sevilla chief reveals ‘one day’ negotiations with West Ham over Youssef En-Nesyri

West Ham‘s pursuit of Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri was given short shrift according to the La Liga side’s director of football Monchi, as reported by Diario de Sevilla.

The Hammers efforts to sign En-Nesyri did not meet Sevilla’s demands and Monchi confirmed that the ‘negotiation lasted one day’.

David Moyes was keen to sign a specific type of player, in particular a striker, and had seemingly singled out the man with the same number of league goals as Lionel Messi this season early on in the transfer window.

After seeing an initial bid rejected, the Irons were given the impression that the Morocco ace was not for sale mid-season and that any further bids wouldn’t come to fruition.

Monchi said: ”What they offered us, I am not saying it was ridiculous because it was not, but it did not satisfy our sporting satisfaction, the negotiation lasted one day. We were blunt, and there was no second offer.”

En-Neysri, a 35-cap Morocco international, has 16 goals in all competitions this season and is spearheading Sevilla’s quest for Champions League qualification.

In some ways, it’s refreshing to see Moyes’ approach to transfers and only signing players who will benefit the club whilst attempting to avoid making the tiresome mistakes in the market which have preceded his tenure.

However, that may come back to bite the Irons and their manager. Whilst dreaming of an idyllic transfer scenario, West Ham’s squad has been left dangerously low on natural strikers.

Indeed, every time Michail Antonio so much as grimaces from now until the end of the season, there could be unbridled panic among Hammers fans everywhere.
