West Ham hope to have stood themselves in good stead to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney by loaning the Championship club Winston Reid this month, according to Football League World.
The Hammers allowed the Kiwi defender to leave the London Stadium for the remainder of the season with David Moyes relatively well furnished in the central defender department.
However, the report claims that West Ham might’ve had an ulterior motive as the Premier League club eye up a future swoop for frontman Toney.
The Irons are said to be ‘monitoring’ the former Newcastle man as he enjoyed a prolific season in the second-tier after his summer switch from Peterborough United.
At 24, the Northampton born striker has been in inspired form for the Bees scoring 18 goals in 25 league appearances as well as contributing four assists.
Toney’s remarkable season continued this weekend as the £9m valued hotshot netted a hat-trick in a resounding 7-2 victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

This is all well and good but the majority of Irons faithful would much rather this was a deal for now rather than the future.
That said, Toney has taken like the proverbial duck to water on each and every step up to date and based on current form he would have no problems making the grade in the top-flight.
Having already struck up a rapport with the west Londoners in striking the deal to bring Said Benrahma to the London Stadium, Toney is definitely a player West Ham should be in the market for, although much could hinge on whether Brentford themselves are a Premier League club next season.
