West Ham are ‘in talks’ with Bundesliga side RB Leipzig to sign forward Hwang Hee-chan, according to Sky Sports.
They claimed that Irons manager David Moyes is set to make a decision on the South Korean in the coming days as the search for a striker goes into the final days of the transfer window.
Moyes has been left with only Michail Antonio in terms of senior strikers since January 8, when Sebastien Haller left the club for Ajax. In that time, the Irons have risen to fourth in the Premier League with Tomas Soucek in particular stepping up to the goalscoring plate.
Hwang, a 32-cap international, only joined RB Leipzig in the summer from Red Bull Salzburg as a replacement for Chelsea’s Timo Werner.
Having arrived with 38 goal involvements in 40 matches in Austria last season, the 25-year-old has struggled to adapt to the German top flight and is without a goal in seven league appearances for his current club.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
With just four days remaining in the transfer window, West Ham need to see one of the many striker links come to fruition.
Judging Hwang on this season’s output is perhaps unfair, given that he missed more than a month with illness whilst trying to find his feet in a new country.
Signing the 25-year-old off the back of his Austrian form, Hammers would have been over the moon, so that’s the stance we are taking on this potential arrival.
