There has been an air of mystery surrounding Said Benrahma‘s West Ham career ever since the day he arrived in October under a cloud of controversy and rumour.

The Algerian winger was a star of Brentford’s Championship campaign last season and arrived at the Hammers with plenty of expectation, but things haven’t quite gone to plan.

Almost immediately after the 25-year-old moved to the London Stadium, manager David Moyes was playing down the immediate impact, calling for ‘patience’ from fans. The 57-year-old has been true to his word and has afforded Benrahma just two starts in his seven Premier League outings to date.

This week, with questions growing as to Moyes’ feelings towards Benrahma, the manager has outlined the areas where the winger needs to improve in order to start regularly, with ‘ball retention’ top of the list.

With unrest over team selection rife among some of the Irons faithful, there has been a swell of disapproval from plenty of supporters to Moyes’ latest rationale behind excluding his talented star, which one fan described as “garbage”.

Here’s a pick of the dissenting voices from West Ham fans on Twitter…
