West Ham Keeping Tabs on RB Leipzig Talent Matthew Bondswell

West Ham are believed to be keeping tabs on RB Leipzig youngster Matthew Bondswell, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The England under-18 international joined FC Dordrecht in the Dutch second tier in August from his parent club in the Bundesliga and was expected to stay there for the 2020/21 season.

However, the teenager is believed  to be on the radar of both the Hammers and Chelsea, with the London duo interested in striking a deal for the left-back in the near future.

Having come through the ranks at Nottingham Forest, Bondswell headed to Germany in 2018, becoming one of several English youngsters to try and make it in the Bundesliga in recent times. Portuguese outfit Sporting Lisbon are also credited with an interest in the youngster, but a return to his homeland would make more sense.

The full-back has played six times this season for FC Dordrecht in the Dutch Eerste Divisie.

Having taken the leap to swap England for Germany as a teenager, Bondswell clearly doesn’t seem to lack ambition or confidence.

Making great strides in his career and enjoying competitive senior football, the Hammers are right to at least sit up and take notice of a player who could well develop into a fully-fledged England international.

West Ham already have their own young and flourishing full-back, although Ben Johnson is more accustomed to a right-sided position. The current incumbent of the Irons’ left-back role is Arthur Masuaku, albeit the DR Congo man is naturally an attack-minded player.

David Moyes has switched to a five-man defence this season, which has seen Aaron Cresswell move into a central role, potentially freeing up a vacancy for a natural left-sided full-back such as Bondswell.
