West Ham have joined Premier League rivals Watford and Leicester in their pursuit of Getafe defender Djene Dakonam, according to the Express.
The Togo international, who is usually known simply as Djene, is reportedly desperate to move to the Premier League, and could do so for as little as £18million, despite his release clause being £31million.
The Hammers are said to have been tracking the progress of the highly rated 27-year old, and according to the Express’ report they could have the upper hand in early negotiations.

Djene would be a strong signing for West Ham, who are looking to consolidate at the back ahead of the upcoming campaign.

While a prospective move for Djene could be promising for West Ham, it appears unlikely that the club will be willing to spend the money necessary to land the defender.
The club reportedly only have an additional £5million to spend in the next week or so, which would put any move for Djene in jeopardy of collapse from the off.
With other strong central defensive options out there for a smaller price, West Ham would be better off looking elsewhere and even if other options fall through, the club aren’t in the right financial situation to make a move for Djene.
