West Ham made €15m move for Claude-Maurice

West Ham United were reportedly knocked back by Lorient winger Alexis Claude-Maurice following their approach earlier this summer.

The Hammers had been linked with the Frenchman, and according to Le Telegramme, as translated by Sport Witness, a sizable bid was made.

Manuel Pellegrini’s team are believed to have put an offer worth €15 million on the table for Claude-Maurice, and Lorient were left ‘satisfied’ with the financial terms of this deal.

However, the player himself was reportedly reluctant to complete the switch to the London Stadium because of concerns regarding the regularity of game time he would receive.

Claude Maurice is said to be keen to manage his step up from the second tier of French football to an elite league carefully, and is, therefore, exploring other alternatives despite his apparent desire to play in England.

Borussia Monchengladbach are understood to be potential suitors for the wide player, but they may need to up their opening €8 million bid for the youngster, which was rejected.
