West Ham confirm Marko Arnautovic’s exit

West Ham have confirmed the exit of Marko Arnautovic, with the forward joining Chinese Super League champions Shanghai SIPG for a reported fee of £22.4 million.

Arnautovic’s future has been up in the air throughout 2019 and his move has felt increasingly inevitable as time has gone on.

The Austrian was strongly linked with a move to China back in January, but a deal failed to materialise.

He has now exited the Hammers, however, with the club confirming the news on their official website.

There was a feeling that keeping hold of Arnautovic would only have a negative effect on team morale.

He joined West Ham from Stoke City in 2017, initially making himself a crowd favourite after some influential displays.

The 30-year-old’s attitude has got worse, though, and he made it clear he wanted to leave this summer.

Arnautovic made 65 appearances in total for West Ham, scoring 22 goals along the way.
