West Ham make contact with Arsenal and Newcastle target Wesley Moraes

West Ham have joined the race for Brazilian striker Wesley Moraes according to the players agent, via Calciomercato.

Wesley, 22, is also attracting interest from Lazio and Newcastle, after an impressive campaign for Club Brugge in Belgium, where he scored 13 league goals in 38 games.

Previously, the powerful Brazilian had been linked with moves to Arsenal and Paris-Saint Germain respectively, but no formal approach was ever made.

Moraes’ agent, Paulo Nehmy, confirmed to TheLaziali that a number of clubs remain keen on signing the forward:

Are Lazio interested still? Yes, it is true, Lazio are interested, but between being close and getting the business done it still demands conversations.

Nehmy also helped shed some light on interest from England, with the Hammers mentioned as a potential suitor:

What about Newcastle? Are they in the running? Yes, it’s true too, we already had a conversation. But, Rafa Benitez needs to renew his contract…West Ham have also made contact.

Both Newcastle and West Ham are seemingly in the market for a striker in the mould of Wesley, with Salomon Rondon’s Newcastle loan expiring, and Andy Carroll expected to leave the London Stadium on a free next month.

The Hammers had previously been linked with the likes of Maxi Gomez and and Aleksandar Mitrovic, with manager Manuel Pellegrini expected to bolster his front-line this summer.

Lazio are set provide competition for Moraes, who themselves are in need of an understudy to the prolific Ciro Immobile.
