West Ham have been handed a boost in their attempts to sign AC Milan’s Franck Kessie, with the Italian giants willing to sell the midfielder this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, cited by Inside Futbol.
The midfielder is being monitored by the Hammers, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur ahead of a summer switch to the Premier League after the 22-year-old’s impressive individual campaign.
And according to the report, Milan are open to offers for the Ivory Coast international in the upcoming window.
Kessie, who made the move to the San Siro in 2017, is known for his energy in the defensive midfield role and can also play further forward in a box-to-box position.
The player seems to fit into the Hammers’ new transfer strategy, with the club looking to bring in younger players on smaller salaries, compared to experienced Premier League players on higher wages.
Kessie could be seen as a replacement for current Hammers star Declan Rice, who has been heavily linked with a move away from the London Stadium this summer.
Four more midfielders West Ham could sign this summer
Cardiff midfielder Camarasa may be offloaded in the summer following the Bluebirds’ relegation. The Spaniard would add real quality in an attacking midfield role.
A more ambitious signing, Napoli’s defensive midfielder Diawara has similar attributes to Kessie, however, the 21-year-old is attracting plenty of interest around Europe.
Huddersfield Town star Mooy is another who could realistically make the move to the London Stadium following the Terriers’ relegation.
Phillips could prove to be an excellent addition to the side and could be available to sign if Leeds fail to earn promotion to the Premier League.
