Samir Nasri to take fitness test ahead of contract talks

West Ham midfielder Samir Nasri is to be assessed for his fitness in the following days amid talks about his future at the club.

Since his arrival on a free transfer in January, the French attacker has only made six appearances and has been suffering from a calf injury for seven weeks. Nasri has registered two assists during his time at the club.

Despite Irons boss Manuel Pellegrini stating Nasri was fit again last week, he was absent from the squad in West Ham’s 3-0 win against Southampton on the weekend.

Therefore, according to the Evening Standard, the 31-year-old will be assessed in this week to see if the player is fit enough to remain at the club.

The former Arsenal star last made an appearance for the club in March, when the Hammers defeated Huddersfield 4-3, coming on from the bench. The winger would then go on to injure his calf during a warm-up at half-time during West Ham’s match against Chelsea.

Nasri received a doping ban while playing for Turkish side Antalyaspor, the club who Man City sold him to.

Should he remain at the club this summer, Nasri will be a key player in the squad next season as they attempt to climb up the table next season.
