Wilshere hails Rice as England’s best midfielder
In an interview with the club’s official website, Declan Rice’s teammate Jack Wilshire believes that that the former is the “best player in his position in the country”.
Speaking about the new England international, Wilshere said:
I thought about texting him the other day before Friday, but I decided not to because there would have been so many people messaging him.
He added:
I’m really happy that he got some game time, because I believe he is the best player in his position in the country.
Rice made his England debut as a substitute in the game against the Czech Republic on Friday night at Wembley.
After an impressive breakthrough from the West Ham academy last season, his progression has only gone on an upwards trajectory.
At this rate, it is easy to see Rice being a huge part of the England squad in the future with his physical prowess and his current mentality. With rave reviews from his fellow West Ham teammate, it is not surprising he is drawing comparisons to the likes of Claude Makelele.
Rice now has the chance to cement himself into a starting position in the England squad after he started in Montenegro on Monday night, with his fellow competitors in the squad being Jordan Henderson and Eric Dier.
