West Ham have been told that they will need to part ways with €45 million in order to sign Duvan Zapata from Atalanta.
While an opening offer was rejected, another approach from the Hammers in the summer is not being ruled out at this stage.
However, West Ham have been told to up their bid if they want to stand any chance of bringing in the Colombian at the end of the season.
Zapata was one of the many names to be linked with a move to the London Stadium following speculation surrounding Marko Arnautovic’s future.
The Colombian has found the back of the net 17 times in the league this season, only Krzysztof Piatek, Cristiano Ronaldo and Fabio Quagliarella have scored more.
Where do West Ham need to strengthen in the summer?
Lukasz Fabianski turns 34 next month and West Ham will be eager to keep one eye on the future.
Pablo Zabaleta is not getting any younger and West Ham need to plan for life after the Argentinian.
West Ham may look to bring in another wide threat to compliment the skill of Felipe Anderson.
If Marko Arnautovic’s long-term future is elsewhere, the Hammers will need to bring in a proven goalscorer if they’re true about their European ambitions.
