Newcastle United have kept an eye on Napoli striker Roberto Inglese this season, with West Ham United also reportedly planning a move for the player.
The Hammers were linked with a summer pursuit of the Italian front-man earlier on Monday, but it seems they could face competition from another Premier League club if they are to chase a deal for the player.
Inglese is currently under contract at Napoli but has spent the season on loan at Parma, establishing himself as an important player for the Serie A club.
The striker has shone in an underwhelming campaign for his loan side, finding the back of the net on eight occasions as he continues to catch the eyes of clubs across Europe.
The Magpies have been watching plenty of players in Serie A throughout the campaign, the report states, with Parma’s loan star among those under observation.
Why Inglese would be a good signing for West Ham
Reports have indicated that Inglese will cost roughly €20 million in the summer. In today’s market, this is a more than fair price for a player who has been in strong goalscoring form in the past two seasons.
At 27-years-old, Inglese is in the prime of his career. He will be hoping to shine on the big stage, perhaps in a different league, before his twilight years approach.
Inglese is a good fit for Manuel Pellegrini’s style. He links attacking moves well, is adept with the ball at his feet and is a more than capable finisher.
Backup for Arnautovic
Marko Arnautovic could be retained by West Ham this summer, and if he is, quality backup is needed. Andy Carroll, Javier Hernandez and Lucas Perez have all shown inconsistency, and a fresh option wouldn’t go amiss.
