Declan Rice wins Young Player award

Declan Rice has been named the Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards.

The 20-year old midfielder beat out competition from Crystal Palace defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi at the Battersea based awards ceremony on Thursday evening.

QPR Winger Eberechi Eze and Charlton starlet Karlan Grant completed the shortlist, which restricted candidates to players under the age of 23.

The awards are designed to celebrate the best of London football in the 2018/19 season, and are voted upon by a panel of 22 experts from across the football industry, including former players such as Bobby Zamora, Bob Wilson and Tony Cottee.

Rice has earned rave reviews this season in what has very much been a breakout campaign, and has established himself in the Hammers squad.

The former Ireland international scored his first goal for the club against Arsenal last month, and recently penned a new long-term deal to remain with the club until 2024.
