Reims blocked West Ham move for Mendy
West Ham had a move for Reims goalkeeper Edouard Mendy blocked by the French club at the start of the season.
According to Le Phoceen, via Football Transfer Tavern, West Ham tried to sign Mendy last summer, only for Reims to block the move.
The report claims that Reims were desperate to keep Mendy to ensure that they were able to retain their place in Ligue 1 for another season.
Mendy has been in excellent form for Reims in the league so far this campaign, only conceding 22 goals in 24 games. The 26-year-old is said to be one of the most highly rated goalkeepers in the division.
Instead of completing a deal for Mendy, West Ham pushed through with the signing of Lukasz Fabianski from Swansea – who were relegated to the Championship last season.
The Polish international, himself, has been in impressive form, with a number of standout performances between the sticks for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.
