Maxi Gomez deal collapses over wage demands

West Ham’s bid to sign Celta Vigo star Maxi Gomez is off due to the striker’s wage demands, according to TEAMtalk.

The Hammers were keen to secure a deal for the frontman to move in the summer, but a failure to agree personal terms has thrown the move into jeopardy.

The 22-year-old striker has scored nine goals in 19 appearances for Celta Vigo this season, but his goals haven’t helped his side’s struggles, with Miguel Cardoso’s team sitting 18th in La Liga.

A move away was a tempting prospect for the striker, who has been reportedly attracting interest from several clubs, but now any sort of transfer seems off the cards.

Gomez was touted as a replacement for Marko Arnautovic after the Austrian was eyeing a big money move to China which eventually fell through.

The Austrian has since, however, put pen to paper on a new contract at the London Stadium, perhaps softening the blow of West Ham’s seemingly failed pursuit of Celta Vigo’s talisman.
