West Ham United forward Marko Arnautovic has been given permission to return from international duty with Austria early because of his ongoing knee problem, according to a report on Sport Witness.
Arnautovic found the back of the net for Austria as they defeated Northern Ireland 1-0 in the UEFA Nations League.
The Hammers’ striker admitted earlier this month that he has been battling with an ongoing knee issue and has been playing through pain in recent weeks.
There were suggestions that Arnautovic should have withdrawn from the Austria squad to focus on recovering from the issue but he did not do so.
Reports in Austria are claiming that Arnautovic has been allowed to return to London, even though they have an international friendly with Denmark.
The knee issue is concerning for West Ham and the more Arnautovic continues to play with the knock, it could keep on getting worse.
Arnautovic hobbled off during West Ham’s 3-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park but has since returned to action.
