West Ham moved ahead of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to complete the signing of Issa Diop, a report from the Daily Mail has revealed.
A whole host of clubs had been made aware of the young defender’s qualities during his stint at Toulouse but the Hammers were quick to firm up their interest as they completed a big-money move for the Frenchman.
Diop joined for £22 million in the summer and has been a revelation at the back for the Hammers, catching the eye of many with some dominant performances.
The young centre-back was especially impressive as he kept Romelu Lukaku quiet in West Ham’s comprehensive 3-1 win against Manchester United on Saturday.

Diop’s display prompted praise from Jose Mourinho, who could well have been managing the defender if United had pursued their apparent interest during the summer.
Congratulations to the scout who found the 21-year-old kid, Diop, a monster who dominated everything in the duels.
The Mail’s report indicates that Tottenham and United watched Diop in action several times before his move to West Ham, with top European clubs such as Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund also having been attentive to his displays.
Nevertheless, Diop was snapped up by West Ham and the club are reaping the rewards from their gamble, as the defender continues to shine.
