West Ham have complained to broadcast station TalkSport after comments from Danny Murphy over their handling of Declan Rice.
According to The Guardian, West Ham are not happy with Murphy’s comments after he said it was “ridiculous” that the club had not yet handed Rice a new contract.
This is despite reports that Rice has already rejected a contract offer from West Ham, although he is still open to negotiating a new deal.
West Ham are said to be confident that Rice will sign a new deal before the end of the year.
Rice started in West Ham’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Sunday, impressing in the holding midfielder role behind Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang.
The youngster played as a central defender at times last season and is able to operate in a variety of positions across the pitch.
He made 31 appearances in all competitions last season and has been capped three times by Ireland at international level.
West Ham are eager to keep him, as they view Rice as a vital cog in their team going forward.
