Stuart Pearce has hailed Declan Rice’s impact on West Ham’s team and his potential for the future.
Rice started in West Ham’s 3-1 win over Everton on Sunday, impressing in the holding midfielder role behind Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang.
The youngster played as a central defender at times last season and is able to operate in a variety of positions across the pitch.
He made 31 appearances in all competitions last season and has been capped three times by Ireland at international level.
Stuart Pearce was tasked with naming his Premier League Team of the Week for Sky Sports and said this after including Rice in his side.
The reason why West Ham haven’t played particularly well this season is because they’ve been too loose in midfield. Rice and Obiang played in the central roles on Sunday and were fantastic. Rice has a great future in front of him and needs the games now.
Rice was not the only West Ham player in Pearce’s XI, with Marko Arnautovic making it in as his striker.
Arnautovic is so important for West Ham. He scored a goal, created a goal and he was a threat in behind with his pace. His hold up play is also very good.
