West Ham winger Andriy Yarmolenko’s style of play is similar to that of Real Madrid star Gareth Bale, Tony Cascarino has claimed.
Cascarino, writing in his column for the Times, discussed how the Ukraine international performed in West Ham’s 3-1 win at Everton on Sunday and suggested that he plays in a similar fashion to Gareth Bale and Bayern Munich star Arjen Robben.
Yarmolenko is like Gareth Bale and Arjen Robben in the way that he wants to play on the right and cut in on to his left foot. As an opposing defender, you cannot allow him to do that or he will punish you more often than not. And it is also obvious that he will try to do it at every opportunity.
Yarmolenko’s introduction to English football has been a gradual one but Manuel Pellegrini opted to finally award him with his first start in the Premier League at Goodison Park.
The former Borussia Dortmund star failed to disappoint and was talismanic as West Ham clinched their first points of the new Premier League season.
Yarmolenko opened the scoring for West Ham after some good work from Marko Arnautovic before doubling his side’s lead with a wonderful curling effort.
His attacking companion Arnautovic sealed the victory in the second half with a poked finish to cancel out Gylfi Sigurdsson’s goal on the stroke of half-time.
