West Ham were one of several clubs who expressed an interest in signing new Southampton recruit Danny Ings from Liverpool in the summer transfer window, according to a report from Paul Joyce for the Times.
Ings was eyed by a number of Premier League clubs in the summer but made a last-minute move to Southampton as he targeted a return to the south coast.
The 26-year-old signed for the Saints on an initial season-long loan move which will become permanent next July for a transfer fee believed to be set at £18 million.

West Ham were active throughout the summer and bolstered their front-line with the signing of Lucas Perez from Arsenal.
However, as per the report from the Times, the Hammers had emerged as potential suitors for Ings, who sought a move away from Anfield to ensure that he would be playing regular first-team football this season.
Ings has so far scored one goal in his first three outings for Southampton.
