West Ham told to meet Gomez’s release clause
West Ham have been told that they will need to meet Maxi Gomez’s release clause if they want to sign the striker this summer.
The Mirror reports that West Ham’s bid in the region of £27 million was rejected by Celta Vigo.
The forward has a £35 million release clause in his current deal with the La Liga side and the Hammers have been told to stump up the cash.
Gomez scored 17 times in La Liga last season, something that has not gone unnoticed.
Manuel Pellegrini is in the market for a new striker before the transfer market closes next week.
The Hammers struggled for a regular source of goals last season, with Marko Arnautovic being used as a makeshift striker.
Javier Hernandez and Jordan Hugill are the club’s only fit recognised strikers, but the latter is being heavily linked with a move away from the club after falling out of favour.
