West Ham remain keen on Marlon Santos as Southampton drop out of the race

West Ham remain interested in a deal to sign Marlon Santos from Barcelona, but Southampton are believed to have dropped out of the race.

Sport claim that the Hammers remain at the front of the queue to sign the Brazilian, who is expected to leave the Nou Camp on a permanent basis this summer.

The defender was recalled from a two-year deal with Nice early so Barcelona would be able to sanction a permanent transfer elsewhere.

There had been some suggestions that Southampton had jumped in front of West Ham in the race to sign him.

However, that does not appear to be the case following the arrival of Jannik Vestergaard from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Danish defender recently completed a move to the Premier League after impressing in the Bundesliga.

Should Santos make the move to the London Stadium, he would be part of a new-look West Ham defence under Manuel Pellegrini.

Issa Diop, Ryan Fredericks and Fabian Balbuena have all joined the club this summer, while Lukasz Fabianski arrived from Swansea.
