Jamaal Lascelles has reiterated that he is happy at Newcastle United, amid reports linking him with a move to West Ham this summer.
The powerful central defender is reportedly one of several options on the Hammers’ radar this summer, with the club understood to be keen on adding further quality to the defensive ranks.
West Ham have already secured the signings of Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena as new central defenders, but it’s been also reported that the club have lodged a bid worth £25 million for Lascelles.
However, the Magpies rejected this initial proposal from West Ham, with Rafa Benitez’s star player seemingly set to stay put for the foreseeable future.
Lascelles allayed fears over his future at St James’ Park recently and, as quoted by the Chronicle, insisted that he is still happy to be a Newcastle player heading into next season.
I’m happy at Newcastle. I don’t take notice of the media and I have always been told not to buy into speculation. I was told not to read into it. Half of it isn’t even true anyway so I’m just concentrating on playing for Newcastle. I’m happy here, I’m captain, it’s my job and that’s all I’m doing right now.
The Newcastle captain may be a target for West Ham, but it seems they will be forced to look elsewhere.
